Chelsea host Manchester United today for a mega-clash that has the potential of being the title-decider. If Manchester United win, they will all but mathematically seal their 10th Premier League title and second in consecutive years. But if Chelsea get all 3 points, the title race will be thrown wide open with all to play for in the last two games of the season. And In case of a draw, United will still be 3 points clear at the top, and that will make United the favourites. So really it is all or nothing for Chelsea this evening. Read More

Real Madrid have always been after Christiano Ronaldo. Carlos Queiroz, former Real Madrid manager , revealed that Real even wanted to sign him when he was still at Sporting Lisbon, but some of the directors were not sure about whether to spend so much money on such a young winger. Manchester United took full advantage of Real’s hesitation and snapped him up for 12 million pounds. However, Real Madrid soon realised their mistake and when Ronaldo was made the scapegoat for England’s exit from the 2006 World Cup, they did not make any secret of their desire to take Ronaldo to the Bernabeau. But Sir Alex and Queiroz persuaded him to stay.Since then Ronaldo has enjoyed two phenomenal seasons at the Old Trafford. Therefor, it was not surprising when Spanish reports claimed that Real are considering a world record offer to lure him away from Manchester United. But now Christiano has himself come out and stated, in emphatic fashion, that he is very happy at Manchester United and fully committed to the club. I always thought that Blackburn away was a tough fixture for United. But Tevez scored to equalise for United right at the depth, getting United one hand on the Premier League title and very much in control of their own destiny, going into next Saturday’s crucial visit to Stamford Bridge. Sir Alex Ferguson started wuth a positive 4-4-2 formation, but the players looked off colour from the start. Predictably, Blackburn made United pay when a ricochet from a Pedersen throw-in fell at the feet at the feet of Roque Santa Cruz, who made no mistake to score his 20th goal of the season. The best chnce of the half fell to Tevez, but he failed toscore from only a few yards out. United upped the tempo after the break, but the full effects of Fergie’s half-time talk were not felt until 75 minutes. United created chance after chance, but that man Friedel tured in a superhuman performance to keep Blackburn in the match. Finally, United were able to equalise when a Scholes’ flick-on from a Nani corner, was directed in by Tevez, adding to the many crucial goals he has already scored for us this season. Read More
Chelsea met Wigan , at home , in a crucial Premiership fixture on Monday night. It was a must win clash for the Blues as Manchester United had already beaten Arsenal a day earlier and needed the 3 points to stay in touch at the top. With Chelsea’s impeccable record at Stamford Bridge, you could not blame anyone for not giving the Lactics a chance . But Steve Bruce, the former Manchester United captain, had other ideas and master-minded a draw for his club Read More

I had not written on this site for some time due to my mock examinations. Thankfully they are now finished (They went quite well and I received good marks). Therefore, I will be writing regularly again. Let’s start with a look back at this weekend’s big match…

Two weeks ago, it was thought that this fixture would be a real title-decider, but now it was all about whether the Gunners could stay in the race for the title.

Fulham v Manchester United
Fulham need to get better soon or they will get relegated. And there is no way to rejuvenate the team and fans than a win against Manchester United. In the past, Fulham have troubled “United but they don’t have the quality anymore to do so. It may not be a stroll in the park for “United, but I expect them to win by at least a couple of goals . Fergie will surely rest some of his players, and this will give others a decent run-out ahead of the business end of the season.
Today the season’s first final is going to take place, as Chelsea and Tottenham face-off at Wembley to determine the winner of the Carling Cup (otherwise known as the League cup). Most clubs downplay the Carling Cup’s importance, but when you are in the final, the competition takes a different meaning altogether. So far, Chelsea boss Avram Grant has been able to steady the ship, with only 3 defeats during his tenure. Now Chelsea are getting their sights on the ultimate achievement, the Quadruple. In addition to playing this final, they are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, have a good chance of reaching the Champions’ League quarter-finals and if they win their game in hand, they will be only 6 points behind League leaders Arsenal. While its debate that whether the quadruple can be achieved, Chelsea certainly think that it can be done. Even when the African players went to the Africans’ Nations cup and the likes of Lampard, Terry and Ballack were out injured, Chelsea still managed to grind out results. But now is the real test for Grant as he has a full squad to choose from. He has already said that there are no untouchables in his squad, and this statement is sure to displease some players. This brings us to today’s match. Will Grant start with Terry and Lampard? Will Anelka partner Drogba upfront? I feel Grant will go witha cautious 4-5-1, leaving out Terry and Lampard due to concerns over their match-fitness. I also think Anelka will have to do with a place on the bench, as Grant will prefer Drogba in a lone striker role.
